Pathogen risks are real but differ in form and severity depending on where you’re growing.
Indoor cultivators benefit from controlled climates, but without proper airflow, filtration, and humidity control, pathogens can thrive. The challenge for cultivators is that pathogens can enter through HVAC systems, employee clothing, or contaminated tools. Another common entry point is the introduction of new genetics, which is why ACT LAB recommends quarantining and screening all incoming stock before adding it to the main population.
In contrast, outdoor cultivators face a broader range of environmental variables—humidity, rainfall, and wind can all influence pathogen load. While sunlight and airflow can sometimes offer natural defenses, outdoor crops often lack the same level of environmental control, making early detection even more critical.
Regardless of method, routine testing is the cultivator’s first and best defense against plant pathogens.
Request Testing
ACT LAB’s Plant Pathogen Testing Program includes consultative and diagnostic support to help cultivators identify problems proactively before they infect your crop, or in response to acute outbreaks.
Pathogen tests are available on an a la carte basis, including Aspergillus, Hop Latent Viroid (HLVd), Pan Fusarium, Botrytis, Powdery Mildew, Pan Pythium, Russet Mites and other latent diseases like Cannabis Cryptic Virus (CCV). To get started with Pathogen Testing click on “Request Testing” above.

ACT LAB offers bundled test options that support all cultivation approaches – for Indoor, Outdoor, and Greenhouse Grows.
Bundles include recommended screenings to identify common and high-risk pathogens in Pre-Cloning Stock Plants, and Imported and New Clone Plants. The Pathogen Program is easily implemented into your routine cultivation/IPM practices to monitor disease and prevent the spread, transmission, or outbreaks of common pathogens.

ACT LAB’s Pathogen consultation support can include advising on testing cadences and methods. Testing protocols can be custom-tailored to align to your manufacturing needs, for all stages of your seed-to-sale processes.
